Volunteer Opportunities

Loading... Shining Hope for Communities employs a full-time staff in Kibera and the United States. We are always in need of both short and long term volunteers, especially in the areas of health, education, and the arts. Currently, as a small organization, we are only able to host volunteers who bring considerable experience and expertise.  All volunteers must be over the age of 21, and are required to sign our legal release form. If you are interested in volunteering with Shining Hope for Communities, please email our Programs Director, Ari at ari@hopetoshine.org or signup below. Loading... Medical Professionals: Our community health clinic is slated to open its doors fall 2010. The Johanna Justin-Jinich clinic will be staffed full time by Kenyan medical professionals, but we will be in need of foreign doctors, nurses, and public health professionals that would be willing to volunteer their time and expertise at our clinic to enhance our efforts. Curriculum and Community Enrichment: We are looking for people with specific skills and knowledge to teach classes for a period of time (a month or more) or to lead focused workshops (over a shorter time period). We are especially interested in having special workshops, classes, and programs to supplement the curriculum on topics like: journalism, health, the arts, sustainable agricultural practices, environmental issues, and global women’s issues. But we are open to all ideas and suggestions! If you think you have talents you’d like to share, or an idea for a new exciting program, please contact Ari at ari@hopetoshine.org Research: Shining Hope accepts applications for research, however anyone wanting to conduct research on our projects/with our constituents must undergo our extensive application process.  We will not be able to allow anyone to conduct interviews before the successful completion of this process.  In addition to receiving internal approval, we also require IRB compliance as per the Code of Federal Regulations for the Protection of Human Subjects and Wesleyan University. If you are interested in research please email ari@hopetoshine.org.  Please note that approval could take between approximately 1-6 months.
