Students at the Kibera School for Girls face very difficult realities. Over half of our students are orphans and many are HIV positive. All of our students live in absolute poverty, as we seek to provide an education for talented children who are unable to pay even a small fee. All parents at our school are unemployed and unable to care for their children. For many of our students their school uniform is the only clothing that they own. Most of our students only eat one meal a day: the lunch served at school. By becoming a sponsor you can provide for a child’s nutritional, medical and basic material needs, supplementing the superior education and efforts made by the school to provide for as many basic needs as possible.
Sponsorship
Sponsor a Student: $30 per month, $1 per day
Sponsor a student at The Kibera School for Girls at a crucial stage in childhood development. Our students are in pre-school, kindergarten, and first grade. Your sponsorship provides your student with three meals a day, helps to supplement the cost of their education (as we do not charge children school fees), pays for soap, shampoo and laundry soap, buys one necessary item of clothing per month (sweaters, shoes, underwear, or a dress). Sponsor funds may also be used to cover the costs of medical examinations, prescription and general medications, eye glasses, dental work, and even special dietary needs. Unfortunately, without sponsorship funds, these needs and others are often not met.
Sponsor an HIV-positive Student: $40 per month, $1.40 per day
Comprehensive sponsorship for an HIV-positive student includes all of the benefits ofn normal sponsorship such as: three meals a day, help to supplement the cost of their education (as we do not charge children school fees), soap, shampoo and laundry soap, and buys one necessary item of clothing per month (sweaters, shoes, underwear, or a dress). In addition this special sponsorship covers the cost of supplements which are desperately needed by HIV-positive children. HIV positive orphans are given ARV’s by the government but need supplements to take these and because of opportunistic diseases, they may need other medications.
